Your name on the battery, your passport

If your battery carries your brand, or you import complete bikes, the EU treats you as responsible for its passport, even when a supplier builds the pack. IonPass turns your supplier’s data into a passport for every battery you sell.

Who holds the passport?

It depends on whose name is on the battery and who brings it into the EU.

Usually yours

  • Your brand or logo is on the battery pack
  • A supplier builds the pack to your design or under your name
  • You import complete bikes or spare batteries into the EU

Usually not yours

  • You fit a drive maker’s system battery that it sells under its own name
  • An EU pack maker sells you a finished battery under its own name

In those cases the maker whose name is on the battery provides the passport. Ask them for it, and keep the link in your records.

How IonPass helps brands

  1. Ask your pack supplier once

Send your supplier a link to fill in the model data they know: cells, chemistry, capacity, test reports.

  2. Add your serial numbers

Import the serial numbers of each production batch from a spreadsheet.

  3. Print the QR labels

Download print-ready labels for your pack supplier or your own assembly line.

Questions from brands

We use a drive maker’s system battery. Do we need IonPass?

Probably not for that battery: the maker that sells it under its own name provides the passport. You may still need one for batteries you sell under your own brand, such as spare packs or range extenders.

Our pack supplier is outside the EU. Who enters the data?

You stay responsible, but your supplier can fill in the parts they know through a link from IonPass. You check the data and publish the passports.

Do spare batteries need a passport too?

Yes. Every battery placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027 needs its own passport, whether it ships in a bike or on its own.
