If you bring e-bikes, e-scooters, e-mopeds or spare batteries into the EU, you are usually the one placing their batteries on the EU market. From 18 February 2027 they can’t be sold without a passport. IonPass gets the data from your factory and puts a passport behind every battery.

Before your next shipment
Most of the passport comes from your factory. Agree on it before the batteries leave.

- Model data: chemistry, capacity, voltages, weight and power
- Hazardous substances and critical raw materials in the pack
- Test reports and the declaration of conformity
- The serial numbers in each shipment

E-mopeds and other light vehicles count as long as the battery weighs 25 kg or less. Heavier packs fall under the rules for electric-vehicle batteries, which need a passport too.

Questions from importers
Does an e-scooter battery need a passport?
Yes. Batteries for e-scooters, e-bikes and similar light vehicles are batteries for light means of transport, which need a passport from 18 February 2027.
Do spare batteries we sell separately need one?
Yes. Each battery placed on the EU market needs its own passport, whether it ships in a vehicle or on its own.
Our factory won’t share all the data. What then?
You stay responsible for a complete passport, so agree on the data in your purchase terms. IonPass shows exactly which fields are still missing.
